Crystal Forest
Dawn Thebarge Hill
1998
Day breaks and the sun's face smiles down upon the night's frosty breath
Shining through the icy fingers of a crystal tipped oak.
The morning silence broken only by the crackle of the forest
As the wind attempts to awaken the members of the clan with a gentle rustling.
Fairies glitter in the sun, beckoning with their delicate wings as if to say,
" Come forth,"
All the while retreating with frosty giggles.
Glittering jewels upon each branch and bough, acorn and berry, weighing down the forest
So that one fears they will be broken by the weighty beauty.
But the sun's love warms them all, shatterings of crystal lay about.
Now the sound of dripping replaces the crackle and crunch
While the earth awaits
Drinking in the once frozen nectar
